Research question
IMPULSE studies how motherhood affects women’s employment and mental health. Unlike work that measures outcomes only after childbirth, the project also considers the prenatal period.
Approach
The project will use administrative data that have not previously been used for this question. It has two objectives:
- develop new empirical strategies to identify the causal effect of motherhood more precisely;
- extend the outcomes usually studied in economics to include women’s mental health.
Collaboration
The project brings economists and health professionals together. This first phase develops the methods and collaborations needed for subsequent research.
Project information
IMPULSE was selected as a 2026 laureate of the University of Poitiers’ UP-Squared programme.
